| In a world that few could have predicted at the time of the 6th Australian Space Development Conference, space activity has taken on new dimensions, and new applications are coming to the fore. Defence applications and border security have stepped up as important uses of space assets and the world has also drawn closer together around a common threat. Space technology also continues to play an important role in the communications needs of this global village, as well as in helping us observe and maintain the environment. At another extreme we have seen space tourism take centre stage as a guide to the new frontiers of commercial space activity. |

| Closer to home the efforts of the Asia Pacific Space Centre and Kistler Aerospace bring Australia closer to becoming a major new launch centre. This combined with renewed activity in the Asian region provide a strong rationale for participation in this seventh conference in the biennial series. To add to the commercial theme of this years event we have added the new dimensions of bringing the 2nd Australian Space Science Workshop into the same venue as the conference as a parallel track. We have also added a Business Incubation Workshop to further the development of new space business. Both of these Workshops will be open to 7th ASDC participants and will be free of charge. Our seventh conference promises to be a fascinating look at the changing world of commercial space and I encourage you to join other delegates for a stimulating and enlightening exchange of ideas and opportunities. I look forward to welcoming you to Sydney in July. ![]() Kirby Ikin Conference Chairman Chairman, National Space Society of Australia |
