In 1997, the National Space Society of Australia put in place a series of awards to recognise Chapters and individuals who have advanced the goals of the Society and the development of the Australian space industry.
The four award categories are:

Presented to a Chapter in recognition of its activities and development throughout the year.
A C T I V I S T - O F - T H E - Y E A R
Presented to an NSSA Member in recognition of their dedication and pro-active service to Society goals.
O U T S T A N D I N G - S E R V I C E - A W A R D
Presented to an individual in recognition of their contribution and personal services to the Society.
N S S A - S P A C E - P I O N E E R - A W A R D
Presented to an individual from the Australian space industry in recognition of their long and outstanding services to the domestic space community.
P R O J E C T - O F - T H E - Y E A R - A W A R D
Presented to a chapter for the most important project undertaken during the year.
