The 1998 Space Frontier Conference (SFC) was organised and hosted by the Melbourne Space Frontier Society. Held at the Scienceworks Museum, September 27, 1998, the program developed by the Chapter presented a diverse range of speakers and topics.

The 1998 SFC was appropriately launched by a public address from Australian-born NASA astronaut Dr Andrew Thomas, who had recently returned from a five month stay on the Mir Space Station.
