The NEWCASTLE SPACE FRONTIER SOCIETY (N.S.F.S.)
is the Newcastle Chapter of the NATIONAL SPACE SOCIETY of
AUSTRALIA (N.S.S.A.) which is itself a part of the worldwide U.S.-based NATIONAL
SPACE SOCIETY (N.S.S.).
The N.S.F.S. was formed in June 1990 by two people who
were then Members of the Sydney Chapter (S.S.F.S.), and a third local
Newcastle person. The inaugural meeting was held at the Newcastle Bowling Club
in June 1990, about 10 people turned up, and the Chapter was consequently
formed.
We currently meet at around 1900
(7.00pm) on every third Tuesday of the month at the Joy Cummings Community
Centre, corner of Scott and Pacific Streets, Newcastle. You are most welcome
to attend these meetings, and indeed any events we organize, and you really
ought to check on our current calendar
because there’s bound to be something listed there that’ll be of interest
to you.
Having a website is almost required now,
and I am personally grateful to the following people who provide us with
ongoing assistance in this regard: Wayne Short, Luke Plaizier, John Peschar,
Scott Alder and Michelle Butters. These unsung heroes do much behind the
scenes, and their efforts are very greatly appreciated. Apologies to anyone I’ve
missed; let me know and this will be remedied…
We have tried to design this site with
ease of access in mind. In such a case, some repetition is unavoidable. But we
hope that our site will satisfy your curiosity about who we are and what we
do, and fire your desire to come along and join up with us if you are local
and able to do so!
Our Chapter is a group of very friendly
and unique people. I am very proud of them, of my wonderful Executive, and
indeed of the history of our Chapter itself. I welcome you to our website and
our Chapter, and I hope you will enjoy your contact with us.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Jack Dwyer.
