Abstract
Ausroc 2.5 ProjectThe Ausroc 2.5 Project came to life in January 2003, when the ASRI boardapproved the rocket. Its objective is to launch a <400 kg liquidfuelled (LOX/Kerosene) rocket to an altititude of at least 20 km. It isthe first ASRI project to make significant use of project managementtools, and this will be reviewed. As a rocket designed and constructed by amateurs distributed over Australiawith assistance from various Universities, progression has been frustratingat times. Often, it has been the little things rather than the big thingswhich have caused the most problems. Equally, dealing with the range ofstudent projects over different Universities has been a challenge, as hasbeen negotiating machining resources at those Universities. This "humanside" of a project is important and will be reviewed. But, nevertheless, significant progress has been made so far. Airframematerial has been purchased, and machining started. Detailed designdrawing and aerodynamic analysis are progressing. This will be reviewedin some detail. While later than we had hoped, we are approaching apoint at which we will be able to identify all the remaining purchasesand their costs - an indication of the maturation of the project and anecessary precondition to strategic funding.
